I love being a health coach.
I love being part of my clients’ journeys to better health and happiness.
I love being inspired by their achievements.
However, I haven’t loved operating the business solo, always trying to think of ways to share my services, keep up with technology, maintain a website and ensure my advice is at the forefront of emerging knowledge.
And in doing so, I haven’t been my best client.
By a long stretch.
I’ve worked long hours into the evening more nights and weeks than I care to admit. I’ve forgone exercise and social life and rest and spirituality and family weekends away, all in the interest of work.
And as the adage goes, nobody lies on their death bed and wishes they had worked more.
So, for now, I’m narrowing my services to just one aspect of health.
The one that people can put into place immediately, saving them time, money, health and the environment.
Helping families radically reduce harmful chemicals in their homes.
This is what I’m passionate about.
By focusing my energy and knowledge on this single topic, I can help people make small changes to their cleaning and personal care regimes that will have dramatic results for their entire family’s health, now and into the future.
I will primarily do this through the Norwex range, an industry leader in healthy cleaning and personal care. I will also continue to follow and support other companies and organisations offering healthy product lines, such as Miessence, Shop Naturally, Changing Habits, ASEA and Inner Origin.
My training and experience as a certified health coach will certainly not go astray, for my customers, for myself, for my family, and for all those I spend time with.
The Main Thing
As Stephen Covey said “the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing’.
Which of course requires one to know and understand what their main thing is.
If I were to have to narrow down my core values in life to three things, they would be love, gratitude and joy.
None of which I was feeling or providing from more than half of my health coaching business, the marketing and admin. With our various relocations and shifts in my business, the aspect of health coaching I loved, that is, the actual coaching, was swamped by the constant marketing and admin, and drained my energy and enthusiasm for being a solopreneur.
The very main thing, my reason for choosing to establish a health coaching practice, was to ensure I’d be available for our daughters, my husband, and my own work/life balance, while doing something I loved and would make a difference.
Instead, being a Type A personality, having a business for me meant never-ending to-do-lists; focus on work over play, exercise, friends and family; and a feeling of overwhelm, to read every health newsletter, implement every marketing technique and be present in every social media feed.
Of course, this did not directly benefit anyone, let alone my family or myself.
So, I’m dialing it back. Simplifying my life. Slowing down.
I’m focusing on my main thing. My family.
Loving, enriching and inspiring those closest to me, and in doing so, also myself.
Unless I receive an urgent call from someone wanting to begin coaching sessions right away, I’ll not be taking on new health or relocation coaching clients from now on. If this is the prompt you needed to get started, I’m very happy to be your coach, and help you boost your health and happiness. After all, this is the part of my health coaching business I loved, and, I’ll be brave enough to say, was good at. Thankfully, these testimonials give me the confidence to say so.
To those who I’ve had the privilege to coach over the last four years, thank you so very much! As I inspired you, you also inspired me.

What I urge you to do
This decision has been a long time coming, requiring wine, tears and much to-ing and fro-ing to make.
I say that not as a health coach, but as a real person. We all make mistakes. Once we’re aware of them, it’s in our health and happiness’s interest to fix them.
What are you holding onto that perhaps you shouldn’t be, simply because you worked hard to achieve it?
Not because it is serving you now?
I would so so love to hear, either privately via email, or in the comments below.
Whether you believe in your heart that we have just one life, or more than one, we owe it to ourselves to make the most of this one.
Share what you’re doing with yours!
